1. Introduction to Process Engineering:

  • EPCM / EPC

  • Basic engineering package (BEP)

  • Front end engineering design ( FEED) Role and Responsibility of process engineer in connectivity with various Dept. works and its own scope of work.

  • Relevant Standards/Codes, their importance and applications

2. P&ID and PFD Development:

  • Parameter consideration while development of PFD and P&ID’s.

  • Development of P&ID’s for various product from actual process requirement.

  • Standard Symbols & Abbreviations used in PFD and P&ID development. PFD (Process Flow Diagram)

  • P&ID (Piping and instrumentation diagram)

  • Material (mass) and energy balance calculation – Different cases

  • Basic Plot / Block Plan

3. Design, selection, operation, performance monitoring & troubleshooting of Pumps:

  • A comprehensive course on pumps – types and construction of pumps

  • Pumps operation,

  • Pumps performance curves,

  • Components of pumps, mechanical seals etc

  • Design /selection of right type of pump for a given service, NPSH requirements, performance monitoring, trouble shooting.

4. Design, selection and operation, performance monitoring & troubleshooting of Compressors:

  • Course content includes Compressor basics and types of compressor

  • Construction and mechanical features

  • Compressor controls and surge

  • Lubrication and vibration monitoring,

  • Design/selection of compressors

  • Performance monitoring, troubleshooting.

5. Sizing of relief valves, flare system:

  • This shall include- purpose and scope of application of relief valves

  • Relief load calculations, relief valve sizing calculations

  • Flare system description, types of flare systems

  • Flare KODs, molecular seals

  • OISD guidelines for flare design

  • flare system sizing calculations;

6. Line sizing, hydraulics, piping design and control Valve sizing:

  • Shall include- pressure drop calculations in single phase fluid flow in pipelines, two-phase fluid flow in pipelines

  • Line sizing calculations, optimization etc.

  • Introduction to control valves and CV components

  • CV sizing

  • Types of CVs and MOC

  • Installation of CVs.

7. Distillation, design of tray towers, packed towers -:

  • Distillation fundamentals, distillation column design,

  • Column internals-trays and advancement in tray designs,

  • Tray hydraulics

  • Column internals-packings

  • Distillation column control

  • Phenomenon of flooding, weeping, Down comer backup, Down comer chocking.

8. Design of vessels, separators:

  • Training on design of pressure vessels

  • Orientation of Pressure Vessels

  • Process guidelines for hold-up volume

  • Economic vessel proportions and MOC

  • 2-phase V/L separators, separator internals, 3-phase V-L-L separators

9. Design Of Heat Exchangers:

  • Training on different types of heat exchangers like coolers, air coolers, condensers

  • Design aspects, operation aspects,

  • Codes & standards applicable.

  • Use of HTRI software for the heat exchangers

10. Detail Engineering Activities:

  • Design Basis preparation

  • Material selection,

  • Utility packages / utility selection / utility sizing.

  • Interlocks and control philosophy

  • Safety consideration in plant design, HAZOP study , SIL study etc

  • Introduction of flow Adviser

  • Unit Converter
